On January 22nd, on the occasion of Chinese Lunar New Year, the international cooperation office held a party for international students with the theme of “Warmly Welcoming the New Year and Celebrating the Chinese New Year” in the student activity center 101, which was attended by Mr. Wen Aimin, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of NJITT, and delivered a speech. Yuan Qian, director of the publicity department of the Party Committee, all the staff members of the international cooperation office, class teachers and 72 international students who stayed on campus during the winter vacation gathered together to welcome the arrival of the Chinese New Year.
The activity was kicked off by the promotional video “Chinese Spring Festival Goes Global”, which vividly showed the unique charm of Chinese Spring Festival: from the 23rd day of the Lunar New Year to the 15th day of the first month of the Lantern Festival, traditional customs such as sweeping the dust, putting up Spring Festival couplets, and setting off firecrackers are full of people's aspirations and blessings for a better life. Nowadays, the Spring Festival has been successfully inscribed on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and has become a common festival for about one-fifth of the world's population, which highlights the far-reaching influence and unique charm of Chinese culture. The promotional video provided a visual feast for international students to gain a deeper understanding of China's rich culture.
During the activity, Mr. Wen gave the international students a “big gift bag” for the Chinese New Year and sent them sincere greetings for the New Year.
The international students expressed their eager expectation for the New Year and deep gratitude to the university in various forms such as pop songs, folk dances and blessing videos. During the party, the international students also experienced a variety of traditional Chinese folk activities such as pot throwing and Chinese knot making. These activities not only let them appreciate the charm of Chinese traditional culture, but also enhanced their understanding and love of Chinese culture. The international office also elaborately prepared small red envelopes for the international students, conveying the blessings and warmth of the New Year.
The activity not only provided a platform for international students to show themselves and communicate and interact with each other, but also promoted the exchange and integration of Chinese and foreign cultures, and enhanced the friendship between teachers and students. In the new year, the college will continue to uphold the concept of openness and inclusiveness, carry out more colorful cultural exchange activities, and create a better learning and living experience for international students.
