In order to enhance international students' understanding and experience of Chinese tea culture, and to promote the exchange and integration of Chinese and foreign cultures, the Office of National Cooperation held a unique Chinese tea culture lecture and experience activity from 4 to 5 November. All international students of the school's Classes 2023 and 2024 participated in this activity. The lectures and experience activities were jointly carried out by Ms Xie Fang from Nanjing Tourism Vocational College and Guo Rongmei, Director of the Department of Basic Teaching (International Cooperation and Exchange Office).
At the beginning of the activity, Ms Xie led the international students through the long river of history in vivid language, retracing the prosperous development of tea culture in Tang and Song dynasties, and introduced the classification and characteristics of Chinese tea in detail, which made the international students feel like being in the ancient China where the aroma of tea was overflowing. In the session on tea utensils, Ms Xie narrated the deep cultural heritage behind tea utensils and demonstrated how to use them correctly, so that the international students could feel the charm of tea culture in hands-on practice.
The tea experience and tea tasting session pushed the activity to a climax. International students enthusiastically participated in the process of tea brewing through the guidance of the on-site teachers. From selecting tea, boiling water, brewing tea to tasting tea, each step was full of fun and surprise. International students not only tasted the unique flavour of various teas, but also learned how to appreciate the quality of tea by looking at the colour, smelling the aroma and tasting the flavour of tea; they also learned how to show their own cultivation and demeanour in tea tasting.
In the two lectures and experiential activities, the teachers paid great attention to the better integration of Chinese characters and tea culture, and the vitality and spirituality of Chinese characters and culture from multiple angles, reflecting the resonance of knowledge dissemination and cultural dissemination.
After the activity, the international students said that they had benefited a lot from the tea culture lecture and experience activity, not only had a new understanding of Chinese tea culture, but also personally felt the unique charm of Chinese culture.
The tea culture lecture and experience activity is not only an exchange and dissemination of living culture, but also an important bridge to promote the integration of international students into Chinese society and enhance their cultural identity, which contributes positively to the construction of a colourful and inclusive campus cultural environment. OIC will continue to strengthen the planning and organisation of more similar cultural exchange activities to provide more opportunities for international students to understand Chinese culture and make their study life in China more colourful.
