This is a famous pipa traditional big set of literature, which has been in circulation since the Ming and Qing dynasties, also known as Xunyang Pipa, Xunyang Night and Moon, Xunyang Qu, Spring River Flower and Moon Night. This piece appeared as one of the representatives of traditional Chinese music in the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Through its gentle and simple melody, smooth and varied rhythm, ingenious and delicate orchestration, and silky performance, the piece graphically depicts the charming scenery of the spring river on a moonlit night, and glorifies the beautiful scenery of the water town of Jiangnan. The whole piece is like a landscape scroll with fine brushwork, soft colors and elegance, which is fascinating.
The first section, The bell and drum of the river tower, depicts the scenery of the sunset reflecting on the river and the smoky breeze brushing the ripples. Then, the orchestra plays a beautiful song-like theme in unison, and the phrases are connected with each other in the same tone, soothing and calm; the drums roll softly, with a far-reaching mood.
The second and third stanzas show the mood of the moon on the eastern mountains and the wind returning to the curved water. Then we see the river breeze, the flowers and plants swaying, and the reflections in the water, all in a trance.
In the fifth section, the water is deep and the clouds are deep, the magnificent scenery of the river and the sky are one, the moon is in the sky comes to life. The orchestra played in unison, speeding up, as if the white sails are dotted, and the fishermen's songs are heard from afar, from far away to near, the picture of four songs.
In the seventh section, the pipa is played with a sweeping wheel, just like a fishing boat breaking the water, raising the dynamic of waves lapping the shore.
The climax of the whole song is the ninth section Hey Nai Returning Boat, which expresses the mood of the returning boat breaking through the water, the splashing waves and the sound of the sculling boat Hey Nai, from afar to near. When the returning boat is far away, all music is silent and the spring river seems more peaceful. The whole song ends in a gentle and slow melody, which makes people remember it for a long time.
