The Lantern Festival, also known as Shang Yuan Festival, Xiao Zheng Yue, Yuan Xi or Lantern Festival, takes place on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar every year. The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese festival, the Lantern Festival customs have a long process of formation, rooted in the ancient folk custom of opening the lights to pray for good fortune. It can be boiled in soup, deep-fried or steamed, and has the meaning of reunion and happiness. The soup dumplings in Shaanxi are not wrapped but rolled in glutinous rice flour, either boiled or fried, and are hot and full.
