Xiaoshu, the eleventh of the twenty-four solar terms, falls on July 6-8 in the Gregorian calendar every year. Summer means hot, and Xiaoshu means little heat, which means that although you can already feel the heat of the weather at this time, it has not reached the hottest in a year. Xiaoshu is just the beginning of a hot summer. Although Xiaoshu is not the hottest season of the year, it is immediately followed by the hottest solar term, Dashu. Many places in my country have entered the season with the most thunderstorms since Xiaoshu.
Xiaoshu began to enter Futian, the so-called hot in dog days, dog days usually appear between Xiaoshu and Lushu, which is the highest temperature, humid and sultry time of the year. The monsoon climate is the main feature of my country's climate. In summer, affected by the warm and humid air from the ocean, many parts of my country are hot, humid and rainy. Although the sun is fierce, high temperature, humidity and rain in this season of Xiaoshu, for crops, the rain and heat during the same period are conducive to growth.
In the past, people in southern my country had the custom of eating new during the small summer heat, that is, taste new rice after the small summer heat. After the farmers grind the newly cut rice into rice, they make a meal to worship the god of five grains and ancestors, and then everyone eats and tastes new wine, etc. There is a tradition of eating dumplings in the northern region. People in Furi lose their appetite and are often thinner than usual, which is commonly known as bitter summer. In traditional customs, dumplings are appetizing food, and the shape of dumplings is like ingots. Yuan Bao Zang Fu means eating dumplings symbolizes full of good fortune.
